Hi, I'm Ndumi Hadebe
I coach managers and executives stepping into new roles, broader mandates, or succession opportunities.
As scope, visibility, and responsibility increase, the habits that once made you successful can begin to limit your effectiveness: carrying too much, fixing too quickly, delaying difficult conversations, over-explaining boundaries, or seeking approval when the role requires authority.
These are often not skills gaps. They are the visible expression of deeper patterns—over-functioning, inherited responsibility, the pressure to prove yourself, and unspoken expectations that shape how you lead under pressure.
I help leaders see and shift those patterns, so they can meet greater leadership demands with clearer judgment, stronger boundaries, and grounded authority.
This work is personal to me. I understand how easily competence, responsibility, and the desire to be seen as valuable can lead to over-functioning—creating inefficiency, overwhelm, and a leadership load that is impossible to sustain.

Leadership challenges in South Africa and the region call for deeper inquiry than surface fixes: the courage to examine what is actually driving the issue, so you can respond thoughtfully to the social, cultural, and organisational dynamics shaping your decisions rather than react to them.

And expanding my coaching practice beyond South African boarders - into countries like Swaziland, Zambia and Kenya - contributing to African leadership one coaching client and group cohort at a time.
My story
The work grew out of my journey
I know the pattern of over-functioning from the inside.
I grew up in a home where obedience came before feelings and where my parents’ moods and expectations shaped the emotional climate for my siblings and me. I learned early to anticipate needs, minimise my own, and keep the peace.
In adulthood, that showed up as people-pleasing, weak boundaries, and relationships that cost more than they gave. It eventually contributed to a business partnership in which I was manipulated, financially drained, and most importantly - it cost me my peace.
That experience forced a deeper question: how do capable people lose touch with their own needs, judgment, and boundaries—and how do they rebuild them?
When the pandemic brought more open conversation about financial pressure and family obligation, I began connecting boundary work with Black tax and inherited expectation. That inquiry became Handle Black Tax Like a Pro, published by Penguin Random House in 2023.
It also sharpened the work I do today: helping leaders understand what they have inherited, what they are carrying, and explore what they need to change so that they lead with greater freedom, authority, and discernment.
