Connecting the Dots

The pressures shaping how you lead rarely start at work.

That gap between what's visible and what's actually driving it is where I come in.

Hi, I'm Ndumi Hadebe. I coach senior managers, executives, and leadership teams through the patterns, pressures, and hidden dynamics that shape how they decide, relate, and lead.

Black tax, family obligation, inherited expectation - the socio-cultural realities senior leaders carry follow them straight into the boardroom, shaping presence, judgment, and how they relate.

I have spent years in exactly that territory - working with the cultural dynamics and blind spots that shape behaviour, culture, and self-leadership at senior levels, naming what is usually carried in silence.

My background

Strategic insight, developmental depth.

Two decades across corporate, independent consulting, and coaching have given me enough time to see the same patterns from different angles.

Experience & Expertise

Two decades across PR and communication, HR and recruitment, sports marketing, project management, consulting, coaching, facilitation, and writing.

Qualifications

BCom in Marketing, a coaching qualification, and ongoing studies with the South African College of Applied Psychology.

Deepening the Craft

Continual immersion in personal and leadership development programmes, group coaching masterminds, and applied developmental work.

Who I work with

For leaders ready to break free from repeating patterns.

For leaders navigating complexity, pressure, and change, this coaching helps sharpen decision-making, strengthen leadership effectiveness, and create the conditions for better business results. If this sounds like you, it may be time to take action.

How I work

Pattern, Pressure & Presenceā„¢

Reflection on its own changes little. The aim is development you can feel in how you think, decide, communicate, and lead.

I work through a diagnostic built over years in boundaries and self-leadership coaching, one that surfaces what usually stays beneath notice.

Leadership challenges in South Africa and the region call for deeper inquiry than surface fixes - the courage to examine what is actually driving the issue, so you can respond to the social, cultural, and organisational dynamics shaping your decisions rather than react to them.

Stronger leadership starts there: with clearer awareness of both the context around you and the lenses through which you read it. That conviction underpins my coaching, facilitation, writing, and speaking.

My story

The work began long before it became my work.

  • People-pleasing
  • No functioning boundaries
  • Personal and professional relationships that cost more than they gave

I grew up in a home where obedience came before feelings, where my parents' moods and expectations set the tone for my siblings and me.

That environment planted an early, enduring question: how do I become fully myself, on my own terms, in a world that keeps asking me to shrink into someone else's? That question became the foundation of the work I do today.

The upbringing gave me something real, and it cost me something real too. On one hand, it sparked a genuine, lifelong curiosity about personal development. On the other, it disconnected me from my own needs, wants, and feelings. Without a clear read on those, I defaulted, without realising it, to prioritising everyone else.

That habit looks admirable from the outside. It isn't. I have since learnt that it is a low sense of self-worth wearing the costume of selflessness.

I did not have the language for boundaries, let alone the practice of holding them. That gap followed me into adulthood, into relationships and friendships that did not serve me, and eventually into a business partnership where I was love-bombed, gaslit, manipulated, and left without either my money or my peace.

That was the real turning point. It sent me looking seriously and deliberately for much-needed answers: what boundaries actually are, how we lose them, and how we rebuild them.

When COVID hit, conversations shifted. People began speaking openly, many for the first time, about financial pressure and the unwavering weight of expectation from family and relatives. That is when boundaries and black tax converged for me, and the work that would become my book began to take shape.

Handle Black Tax Like a Pro was published by Penguin Random House in March 2023. Three years on, I am back in Johannesburg, now working with senior managers and executives on what I can no longer unsee: how we were raised, and the subliminal messaging we absorbed from family, school, media, and society, shapes far more of who we believe ourselves to be, and how we lead, than most leaders ever stop to examine.

That is the work I do now.
