How to set boundaries without guilt

Guilt usually appears when boundaries are interpreted as disloyalty. Reframe the boundary as a commitment to sustainability, not disconnection.

Use a three-part structure: acknowledge care, state your limit, and offer an alternative that you can maintain.

For example: I care and I want to help. I cannot send money this month. I can support with planning next month and sharing resources now.

Boundaries become easier when you normalize them before crisis moments, not only during conflict.
