When money requests come from family, people often default to silence, panic, or resentment. None of those responses create long-term trust.
A better approach is to combine empathy with boundaries. Start by acknowledging the relationship, then share your current financial reality, and finally offer what is realistically possible.
Example script: I care deeply about supporting the family, and I need us to agree on what I can sustain monthly without creating debt or conflict.
The goal is not to stop helping. The goal is to help with clarity so support remains stable and respectful over time.
